Loftus Engineering, Inc. is a professional consulting firm providing engineered solutions to mechanical, electrical, and plumbing challenges. We specialize in mechanical and electrical design and construction services for educational, municipal, commercial, and institutional projects.

Loftus Engineering, Inc. is a Woman-Owned Business Enterprise (WBE) certified by the State of Indiana and the City of Indianapolis. The firm’s majority owner and the president is Karen Loftus, a professional engineer with over 25 years of experience in managing and designing a wide variety of mechanical and electrical engineering projects.

Founded in July of 2004, the firm has a foundation of experienced professionals with continuing education and training in areas that are relevant to today’s facility owners. The varied and diverse backgrounds of our staff ensure that the resulting engineering solutions for each project have come from both an “insider’s” and an “outsider’s” point of view.

Today’s complex mechanical and electrical systems require that design professionals understand not only how they work, but also how they can be optimized and applied to meet individual project needs.

Successful building projects require special attention to detail while maintaining an overall understanding of the goals and budget of a project. This understanding comes from ongoing communication with all members of the project team, beginning at conceptual design and continuing through construction, commissioning, and closeout.
Leadership Team
Karen Loftus, P.E., LEED AP, President
Karen is President of Loftus Engineering and leads the firm. She brings more than 30 years of experience in mechanical and electrical engineering and has designed, specified, and commissioned mechanical and electrical systems for a wide variety of buildings.
Karen has served as project manager for the mechanical and electrical design efforts for institutional, industrial, municipal, and commercial projects for over 18 years. Her leadership qualities and entrepreneurial expertise earned her the 2008 Women Business Owner of the Year recognition from the National Association of Women Business Owners.
Stephen Culbert, P.E., LEED AP, Electrical Department Manager and Project Manager
Stephen is the firm’s Electrical Engineering Department Manager. He brings more than 30 years of experience in the fields of electrical engineering, communications, and acoustics to our team.
He has designed and overseen a vast amount of renovation projects including replacement and modifications to power distribution, lighting, life safety systems, communications systems, and acoustics.
Tyler Heaston, P.E., LEED AP BD+C
Mechanical Department Manager
Tyler is the Mechanical Engineering Department Manager for Loftus Engineering. He brings nearly 20 years of experience in mechanical engineering design of HVAC, plumbing and fire suppression systems for a variety of markets including higher education, K12 education, justice, sports and recreation, government, and healthcare. Tyler volunteers on the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) professional committee as a subject matter expert for the Mechanical Principles and Practice of Engineering (PE) exam.
Joe Jamison, Director of Business Development
Joe has been in the A/E/C industry for more than 25 years with experience both in the office and on the construction site. His career started as a draftsman where he gained experience developing detailed CAD drawings for architectural, structural, electrical, and mechanical disciplines.
These experiences led him to a CAD management position where he managed numerous personnel and deadlines. While working full time, Joe returned to school to obtain a degree in Business Administration, which he now utilizes in his current role as Director of Business Development and Business Manager.
